Since a young age Hugh Benjamin has been into dancing. It all started when he saw Michael Jackson do the moonwalk. He thought that was cool and so in 5th grade him and a friend used to practice breakdancing in his friends basement on cardboard.
He then went on to teach young children how to pop and do some moves in which he earned great money at Lower Moreland Middle School.
Hugh won several dance contests in Philadelphia, Pa such as in Club 2000 which was near franklin mills as well as Fizz which was in Valley Forge, PA. He frequented clubs such as Mardi Gras in Northeast Philadelphia, Pulsations Dance Club ( Media ), Electric Playground ( Philadelphia ), “Taylors Nightclub” in Cherry Hill, NJ where he was even filmed on a cable show that was ran on TV..
When Hugh Benjamin moved to Los Angeles he actually took class at Regina’s Dance Studio where he took classes from Oliver (dancer for Madonna) and Swoop (dancer for MC Hammer)
he then went on to Moro Landis where he was even cast in commercial for the dance studio and he frequently took classes from James Adegoke Choreographer for Prince and Carmen Electra , and then regularly with Shane Sparks who is now at Millenium Dance Studios and who is a emmy nominated choreographer for so many pop stars.
It was during the Moro Landis Days that he landed an agent JHR, which has now become Kazarian Spencer and he landed his first National Range Rover Commercial and Chase Manhattan Bank. He later went to Abrams Rubaloff and Lawrence and then to Abrams Artists for commercials. He went to Bobby Ball Talent Agency for Dance with Teresa.
During thos times while dancing and acting Hugh would spend his free time at the Roxbury and Bar 1 on Sunset where he would hang out with many of the casts of some popular shows during that time. When he was at Roxbury it was the good ole days. Hugh was I guess you could say impressed by the dance circle that formed at the Roxbury where everyone would throw down their moves and socialize. Tina Landon, Janet Jackson, Oliver, Swoop, James Adegoke, Bones, Shane Sparks, Animation, Flat Top, and many more participated in the Tuesday Night at Roxbury Club on Sunset. “The atmosphere and fun at that time was very memorable “says’ Hugh Benjamin .
Hugh also got involved in promoting night clubs. He actually promoted Pamela Anderson’s Club Sanctuary on Robertson Blvd. in Beverly Hills as well as a big party at Tempest for Mark Wahlberg ( Marky Mark )
